International Workers Memorial day event

iwmd16Every year, more people are killed at work than in wars.

The purpose behind Workers’ Memorial Day has always been to “remember the dead: fight for the living”  to remember all those killed through work but at the same time ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated. Workers’ Memorial Day is held annually on 28th April, all over the world workers and their representatives conduct events, demonstrations, vigils and a whole host of other activities to mark the day.

In 2018 the theme for the day is ‘Unionised workplaces are safer workplaces’ and will focus the huge difference that unions make in preventing deaths in the workplace. We will also be celebrating 40 years of union health and safety representatives and we are pleased to be able to advise that following discussions with Sandwell Council over the past 12 months an event marking the day for the first time will take place in Sandwell at Council House, Oldbury.

Everyone is welcome to attend the short wreath laying ceremony on Friday 27th April 2018 at 10am.IWMD 2018 invite
