There is strength in Unity!
After a lengthy dispute with their employer regarding fairness at work which resulted in Industrial Action across seven leisure centres last week (Tuesday 10th May 2022) GMB, Unison and Unite members working at Sandwell Leisure Trust have won their fight for fairness and a return to nationally agreed terms & conditions.
Sandwell Leisure Trust have agreed to union demands to return to nationally agreed terms & conditions. This will mean that workers at the Trust can be confident of a strong union representation and fair pay through a return to national pay structures at the Trust.
One GMB member said at hearing the news:
“This is a stunning result, its been a hard couple of years, this victory is a testament to everyone who had the courage of their convictions to never stop fighting for what is right. There really is power in a union”
Darren James, GMB Sandwell Branch Secretary, said:
“This is a big win for workers at Leisure facilities across Sandwell. After months of campaigning, we have shown what we can do when we fight and stand together.
Our strike saw GMB members join other unions in delivering a clear and unmissable message to Sandwell Leisure Trust Management; our members demand fairness at work.
